Following a 14-year career in the British Army, Matt diversified to work in the private security industry, initially spending four years in Iraq and a year in Afghanistan. A short career gap followed, during which time Matt undertook a business management diploma in Australia, before accepting the position of Operations Manager for a private security company start-up in South Sudan, Veteran Security Services (VSS). Matt remained with VSS for five years and rose to Country Manager, during which time he gained vast African business and security management experience. Following a three-year period as the Field Asset Protection Advisor for Tullow Oil in Kenya, Matt accepted the position of Africa Regional Director with Saladin Security, where he remained for six years. It was during this period that Matt designed, authored, and co-created the Qualified Security Manager (QSM) course for Saladin Security, in conjunction with Prosectra. In 2022, Matt accepted the new position of Group Risk Analyst for the Aga Khan Development Network, based in Nairobi.
Matt holds an MSc in Security Sector Management from Cranfield University, UK (2015), and is NEBOSH qualified. He remains an avid reader, traveller, and keen sportsman.
